Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge - Protecting the Environment
01 January 2002
One of the advantages of the renovation early last year of the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge was the opportunity to implement some measures towards protecting the environment of the sanctuary.
Becoming environmentally friendly is a huge effort, but Orient-Express is committed to doing their part to conserve this unique and wondrous spot. To this end, the following actions have been taken: - The old diesel kitchen was replaced by electric installations to stop toxic gas emissions
- The garden is in the process of being replanted with only plants native to the sanctuary
- Only recycled paper is used in the hotel
- All amenities and laundry products are biodegradable
- All wastepaper baskets have recycling divisions which we are happy to note, are used diligently by our guests.
- Training programmes for the staff have been put in place
We understand that the process of becoming environmentally friendly is a long one and requires the help of our staff and our guests.
