Useful Information

Most visitors to Machu Picchu take a full day tour and can get a complete idea of the meaning of Machu Picchu. However, if you are able to spend two days trekking around the ruins, it is worth doing so in order to gain more knowledge and understanding of the ruins.

As Machu Picchu is located in the oriental mountains, near to the forest, there is strong sunshine during the day and at night the temperature reduces and it can be cold. You should take a backpack or carry-on bag containing some warm sweaters. We strongly recommend that you carry with you bottled water, insect repellent, sun block and cap and rain coat if you are visiting during the rainy season.

The subtropical climate means generally mild weather: the average year-round temperature during the day is 16ºC (60ºF). There are two distinct seasons - the rainy season is from November to March and brings heavy rains and visitors are advised to dress accordingly during this season. The dry season from April to October brings higher temperatures.
